Historic centre
Aix at your feet: morning coffee, markets, museums and dinner without arranging the day around a car.
The historic centre is the most efficient choice for a short stay. It keeps the experience dense and spontaneous, and makes returning to the room between two moments of the day genuinely easy.
Its weakness is inconsistency. Old buildings may have steep stairs, small lifts or none. A courtyard-facing room can be serene while a room above a lively pedestrian street is not. “Central” is not enough information: ask for the precise floor, orientation, glazing, cooling and luggage access.

Mazarin & the Rotonde
The intelligence of a central address, with a more measured and architectural version of Aix.
The Mazarin district is known for its 17th-century plan, private mansions and elegant streets. The Aix-en-Provence Tourist Office documents this planned heritage and its connection with the Cours Mirabeau.
The Rotonde side is particularly useful for arrivals and movement beyond the centre. The bus station is close to central Aix and connects the city with the surrounding area, as detailed in the official access and transport guide. Exact location still matters at the edges of the centre.

Puyricard & north Aix
More space, longer evenings outside and the privacy that can turn accommodation into the centre of the trip.
Puyricard and the northern countryside offer the conditions many travellers associate with a Provençal house: gardens, pools, longer views and distance from neighbouring properties. This is compelling for families and groups who will actually use the property throughout the day.
Do not choose from photographs alone. Ask for the map position, realistic driving route, bedroom distribution, air conditioning, pool protection, local assistance and what “near Aix” means in daily practice.
04Best for Sainte-Victoire country
Le Tholonet & east Aix
A landscape-led stay where garden time, walks and the silhouette of Sainte-Victoire take priority.
East of Aix, the scenery feels more directly connected to Sainte-Victoire. It is the strongest alternative to Puyricard when the view and sense of countryside matter more than being able to walk into town.

West Aix & Les Milles
The rational choice when easy road movement matters more than waking inside the postcard.
